NAB-2003: Freshwater- and wildlife management in northern areas Work Load

The course deals with freshwater and wildlife management in the northern regions as well as their harvesting and management. The course starts with an introduction to the environmental basis for the fish and game resources on Nordkalotten plus the important factors that affect those populations. Furthermore the student will gain insight into the most important principles underlying the long term, holistic management of freshwater and wildlife resources both locally and regionally. The course will illuminate the economic significance of wildlife and freshwater resources in the northern regions, as well the opportunities for
business development. At the same time there will given an introduction with regard to environmental and multiple use planning.
Students will learn practical planning by developing a multi-use plan or a management plan for fish or game within a limited area, possibly as the result of an assignment from a landowner or a local council.
| Form of teaching
The course will be given as a combination of lectures (72 hrs) and seminars (72 hrs). This will include seminars with introductory lecturers and presentation of semester projects to the other students. In the semester assignment the students will create a management plan for a geographically limited area, ideally in groups of 2 - 3 students. Excursions in the spring and the autumn (2 x 5 days) are run in conjunction with NAB-1002.
