STV-3031: Public Policy: Municipalities and the discovery of Power and Democracy Work Load

STV-3031 is an elective course for students in the Master''s program in political science, but can also be of interest as an elective for students in other Master''s programs at the university. | Contents
This course examines the foundations, status and challenges of the municipalities. The goal is to provide a substantive foundation of knowledge in the following:
- Municipality foundations (grounds)
- Power-based explanations and conclusions about the status of municipalities
- Relationship between the municipality and the state
- Municipalities in a comparative perspective
- Natinal governance through rights orientation and finance
- The parties'' role and election participation
- Recruiting in local politics
- Media and politics
- County challenges and new role | Form of teaching
The course has multiple teaching approaches | Assessment
One term paper and one written exam.
The exams consist of:
- One 6 hours written university-based exam
- One term paper (approx. 4000 words or 11-12 pages) on a theme of your choice. The deadline for the paper will be determined towards the end of the course.
Grades from A-E are passing grades, and F constitutes a fail. The course is open for re-sit examination the following semester. | Examination semester
