Work Load
10  credits (ECTS)
Objectives
Students will receive a relatively thorough introduction to modern Sami writing with a presentation of the most important books and authors from the last century and up to the present. This competence will be important for teachers and journalists as well as for cultural workers and artists.
Contents
The course provides an overview of modern Sami literature, both prose and poetry. The most central writers will be discussed, with an emphasis on the period after 1970. The focus is on writings in Sami, but to some extent, also texts written in Norwegian and Swedish by Sami authors will be discussed.

Good competence in North Sami is required.
Form of teaching
Teaching will be in the form of lectures and colloquia. Active participation from the students is required.

The literature will mainly be in North Sami, but also partly in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, and English.
