Through a period of internship and a following project, students are to show that they can plan, implement and evaluate an activity of library science in accordance with the legal and ideological basis of the institution, its political, administrative and economical framework, its technical, physical and personal resources, and based on knowledge of the relevant user groups, presentation forms and materials.

Required previous qualifications/ courses:
In order to take BIB-2013, it is required that DOK-1010, DOK-1011 and DOK-1012 are completed. BIB-2010, BIB-2011, BIB-2012 and BIB-2013 form an intermediate one-year component in document institution: library. This intermediate component is also offered as an independent one-year course. BIB-2013 cannot be taken as an independent course.

Recommended previous qualifications/ courses:
We recommend that DOK-1010 - DOK-1015 and one of the intermediate courses DOK-2010, DOK-2011 or DOK-2012 are completed. Furthermore, a good command of English is an advantage, since much of the literature is written in English.
Form of teaching
This course is offered in the spring semester.

The course lasts for 21 weeks. Teaching prior to the internship period is based on lectures and seminars at the university. During and after the placement period, seminars will be held, but individual supervision at university or through electronic media will be emphasised. In addition, a visit at the place of internship will take place during the internship period. The internship period is compulsory.

Language of instruction: Scandinavian languages (Norwegian, Swedish, Danish)
Assessment
Course requirements:
A 9-week internship period at a library is compulsory in order to take the exam.

The examination consists of an individual project paper with the individually chosen topic of the internship period as a starting point. The paper should be of about 30 pages with approximately 600 words per page.

Projects using other media than written ones, i.e. pictures, sound, video, are possible. However, a written part of at least 20 pages is required.

Provided that the project is approved no later than in week 20 of the semester, an individual oral presentation of approximately 15 minutes will be held, followed by a discussion of approximately 15 minutes (30 minutes altogether), during week 19 of the semester. The presentation will be on a topic given by the teacher, which should be discussed based on the topic of the project, course literature, etc., and is to be prepared within half an hour immediately before the presentation. All materials and aids are permitted during the preparation.

The project and the presentation are given a joint evaluation and count for 75 % and 25 % of the final grade respectively.

Performance in the course will be assessed with the grades A-F.
