ARK-2021: History of Climate Work Load 10 credits (ECTS) | Objectives For advanced BA-students and optional Master''s course. | Contents Human adaption to weather and climate has through all times been essential for activity or rest. Weather and climate open for opportunities and limit goals, and have thus always been part of living conditions. Therefore, some knowledge of principles in meteorology and the history of climate may be usefull for workers in archeology and history. For the study of settlements, for example, the climate at distinct places and their surroundings might be evaluated. That is why the course will end up with some training to interpret sites in terms of microclimate. The microclimate is embedded into the macroclimate of the region concerned. As many historical events have been sensitive to climate, knowledge about it''s changes is needed. To show the changes of climate may support some descriptive glimpses into processes creating weather. The global atmospheric circulation results from feedback exchanges of energy between different terrestrial systems. The most important sources and methods to gain knowlegde about passed climate will be reviewed and discussed. Some stress will be laid on the tool of statistical analysis. At the end of the course, students should be able to interpret topography in terms of local climate or to examine documents and events taking in to account changing climate. | Form of teaching Lectures and seminars | Assessment Essay 10 pages.
