SOA-1005: Anthropological perspectives on Saami society and culture Work Load

The course is part of a bachelor''s degree. It can also be used as an optional course in other bachelor programmes in social science. | Contents
The course will provide students with an introduction to Saami society and culture and explore social and cultural variation in time and space. Topics includes are economic adaptation, social organisaiton, inter-ethnic relations, ethno-political development, and the politics of representation and identity. In addition to giving a general introduction to Saami social organisation, theoretical part of the course will emphasise the analysis of ethnicity. | Form of teaching

One essay (home assignment).
An essay (10 pages) in an assigned topic is written at the end of the course. The assignment is handed out 6 weeks before the deadline. Within 2 weeks after the assignment is handed out, the student is expected to submit a 3 page draft project description. The draft will be commented on in oblligatory tutorials. The essay is evaluated according to a grading scale from A-F. A-E means passed while F means not passed. | Examination semester
