SOA-2002: Identity, structure and process

Work Load
20  credits (ECTS)
Contents
The course will provide students with a deeper insight into social anthropological epistemological problems and challenges in the understanding of society and culture. The course continues the exploration of main theoretical trends that were introduced during the introductory course. The course further aims to synthesise insights from the introductory course and the other thematic courses. The course considers central examples of anthropological analysis of society and culture, with a particular emphasis on processes associated with the constitution of identity, person and society.
Form of teaching
The course has multiple teaching approaches
Compulsory teaching
Essay
Assessment
One term paper, one essay (home assignment), one oral examination.

One essay containing maximum 1000 words is submitted early in the term. The course teacher evaluates it as approved/not approved after an obligatory oral feedback.

An essay of approximately 10 pages (3500 words) is written on an assigned topic. A self-selected topic can be chosen, but must be approved by the course teacher. The students may use own material from the fieldwork (SOA-2001) in the analysis. The students are encouraged to utilise insights gained from other parts of the study.

The essay is evaluated according to a grading scale from A-F. A-E means passed while F means not passed.
