BIO-2301: General pharmacology and toxicology Work Load
10 credits (ECTS) | Objectives
The course should give the student a general introduction to pharmacology and toxicology. | Contents
The course will describe how drugs and toxic substances are handled by the body (pharmacokinetics and toxicokinetics and how they affect the organism (pharmacodynamics and toxicodynamics). Also included are how drugs and toxic substances are transported to their sites of action (absorption and distribution), how they work, how they are detoxified (bio-transformed) and removed (eliminated) from the body. Toxic reactions and effects and drug side-affects are discussed. The course also describes the development and evaluation of new drugs, as well as of drugs with an addiction potential . Herbal medicines and Sámi folk medicines are also touched upon. | Form of teaching
