Optional course for the master''s degree in Archaeology. May be used as a subsidiary subject in History, Anthropology and other subjects.
| Contents
This course is concerned with central, current concerns in the archaeological research of Sami history, where anthropological, historical and religious historical contributions play a central role. The course content is two-fold: one part is concerned with matters of a cultural-historical nature, such as the rise of domestic reindeer herding; the advent and continuation of Sami ethnicity; encounters between the Sami and other societies during the Iron Ages and Middle Ages; and religious practices linked to places of sacrifice, graves and other holy sites. In addition, matters relating more to principles and matters of research policy will be addressed, such as the use of the past in discussions about identity and rights; representations of the Sami and Sami culture in research and mediation; also ethical questions linked to the archaeological examination of sensitive places.
