GEO-1001: Introduction to geology Work Load
10 credits (ECTS) | Contents
The first part of the course will include a description of the formation of the earth, its age and composition. The geological cycle and basic geological principles will be explained. In the continuation, there will be lectures about geological processes and products of the earths interior and on it surface, such as minerals, bedrock and bedrock formation, plate tectonics, volcanism, earthquakes and orogeny, weathering, erosion and deposition caused by mass wasting, rivers, glaciers, wind and marine processes. In addition the course will treat ground water, energy and mineral recourses, and environmental aspects. During the exercises, there will be demonstration/study of minerals, bedrocks, and sediments as well as morphology by using maps and aerial photos. At the end of the course there will be a three days geological field excursion. | Form of teaching

Approved exercises/reports | Assessment
A 4 h written exam will be arranged at the end of the semester. Admittance to final examination requires approved course work and field report. Letter grade (A-F). | Examination semester
