HIS-1002: Merchant capitalism, state power and revolutions 1500-1850

Work Load
10  credits (ECTS)
Objectives
This is a compulsory subject in the bachelor degree study course in History. It forms part of the subject collections History for Teachers (30 points) and History for Teachers (60 points). It serves as a subsidiary subject for Archaeology, and in social science and humanities fields.

This subject is concerned with the growth of a strong and effective state power in Norway and in other European countries, and the economic and political background for this development. It also examines parts of the background to a strong state power, and the growth of the European lands'' dominion over other lands and parts of the world, through trade in raw materials and people. This subject is also concerned with the prelude to the two great revolutions that followed: the increased industrialization (the first phase of the industrial revolution) and the shift in political power in France (the revolution of 1789).
