Innhold
The career of Knut the Great is an excellent starting-point for a broad study of northern Europe in the decades around 1000. In political terms, his rule came at a crucial time in the longer-term development of the national kingdoms of England, Denmark and Norway, and may have made a significant contribution to the construction of these states and their national identities. The sources available for this period are limited, but rich. It is possible in this course to consider all the relevant source material (and to read much of it), and thus to appreciate how historians have continued to reinterpret it.
