ARK-3016: Cultural contacts in Northern Fennoscandia BC.

Work Load
10  credits (ECTS)
Contents
The key issue is how to study relations between groups based exclusively on archaeological data (that is without written sources). A pre-requisite for this is a general understanding of processes in action when different groups meet and interact. The main emphasis of the course is on material culture, but insight from ethnography, anthropology, religious studies and other disciplines will be incorporated. Methodological and theoretical perspectives on cultural interaction within archaeology will be discuss with emphasis on more recent approaches. Empirically the course will focus on cultural relation in Fennoscandia from the Early Stone Age to the Metall Age (9000-0 BC)
