SVF-3551: Introduction to fisheries development Work Load

To give the students a basic understanding of the problems and challenges involved in fisheries development, with special reference to developing countries. | Contents
This course is an introduction to the problems and prospects of fisheries development. We start by focusing on the basics of modern fisheries resource management. Why is management of fishery resources necessary? What are the goals of fisheries management and how can they be attained? The course then moves on to the challenge of implementing modern fisheries management institutions in developing countries. After a brief general introduction, five main dimensions of fisheries development is presented through detailed case stories: Technology transfer; Trade versus food security as a goal in fisheries development; Women and households as targets for fisheries development projects; Fisheries development and environmental concerns and Fisheries development by institution building. | Form of teaching
