STV-1002: Introduction to Norwegian Government and Politics Work Load

STV-1002 is obligatory for the bachelor program in political science as well as the bachelor prgram in helath administration. It can aslo be applied as an elective for the bachelor program in health administration, as well as for other social sciences, law, fisheries and humanities. | Contents
The course provides an introduction primarily to the Norwegian political system, with particular weight places on organizational structure and decision-making processes. The goal is to provide a substantive foundation of knowledge in the following:
- How the central political and administrative institutions are organized and function
- How public policy is formed and implemented
- Local policy and management. | Form of teaching
Lectures and seminars. | Exam and assessment
Take-home assignment and a written exam.
The exams consist of:
- One term paper (take-home): The student will write a paper of maximum 2000 words (5-6 pages) on a given theme. The deadline for completion of the assignment is one week after the assignment has been received. It is possible for two students to co-author a paper, in which case the paper should be a maximum length of 3000 words (8-9 pages).
- One 3 hours written university-based exam.
The term paper is evaluated on the basis of an oral response from the course instructor. In the event the term paper receives a grade of ''F'', it is possible submit an improved paper within a given timeframe, usually one week after the original evaluation.
The final grade is based upon a complete evaluation of the course work, including the term paper and the written university-based exam.
Grading: A-E, F=fail. The course is open for re-sit examination early in the following semester. | Date(s) of written examination
