This subject will offer an academic specialization and theoretical insight into selected aspects of the circumstances between language and society. | Contents
The theme of this subject is the use of language and language variation seen in the light of extralinguistic conditions such as geography, social group, gender, age, communication situation, etc., and both theoretical debates and empirical investigations may be brought in. The exact sociolinguistic relationship that is taken up and the emphasis on theory and empiricism may vary.
Bachelor degree programme in language and literature with a specialization in Nordic language and literature, or equivalent, is recommended. | Form of teaching
The teaching will be offered in the form of 6 two-hour sessions during the first half of the semester. | Coursework requirements

| Exam and assessment
Semester dissertation (approx. 10 pages) on a self-selected subject. The subject should be chosen in consultation with the academic teacher, and the dissertation must be written under guidance during the course of the semester and submitted within a set deadline. It may be written in either bokmål or nynorsk.
