This subject will offer academic specialization and a theoretical insight into academic questions relating to names - both from a linguistic and a cultural perspective. | Contents
The study of names may be divided into two main areas: place names and personal names. Depending on the teaching resources available, the main emphasis will be placed on either place names or personal names. In Spring 2006 the teaching will focus on place names.
Bachelor degree programme in language and literature with a specialization in Nordic language and literature, or equivalent, is recommended. | Form of teaching
The teaching will be offered in the form of 7 two-hour sessions during the second half of the semester, possibly concentrated into 1-2 sessions if the teaching situation necessitates this. | Coursework requirements

| Exam and assessment
Seminar submission (primarily in the form of a take-home assignment) - at the latest during the first week in May.
A semester assignment (approx. 10 pages) on a self-selected theme. The subject should be chosen in consultation with the academic teacher, and the dissertation must be written under guidance during the course of the semester and submitted within June 15. It may be written in either bokmål or nynorsk.
