The course aims to provide students with broad knowledge and insight into the empirical, historical and theoretical perspectives of the period. | Contents
In this course, the development of pictorial art in England in the period 1740-1850 will be the central topic. The focus will be on the expansion of the art institutions, such as the schooling in art, art museums, art exhibitions and art criticism. There will be a broad and cultural-synthetic approach to the course material. | Form of teaching
The course is offered in the spring semester. Lectures, periods of self-tuition, and exam preparation will be distributed across the 21 week duration of the course.
The instruction consists of lectures, seminars and group work. In addition, there will be excursions and field work. ICT (ClassFronter) will be used actively.

| Exam and assessment
The examination comes in two parts and consists of a semester assignment and an oral exam. The semester assignment, an approximately 12-page academic paper on a topic of the student''s own choosing, will be written in approximately 4 weeks. The oral exam will be approximately 45 minutes. The written and the oral examinations count equally much towards the total grade of the course. The course evaluation will be awarded as a letter grade (A-F). | Contact person/lecturer
