This subject forms a compulsory section of the Bachelor degree in Civic Planning and Cultural Understanding. The main aim is to offer an introduction to cultural geography. This may be included in the study plan for teachers. It can also be used as a subsidiary subject in other social sciences, or as a starting point for further studies in geography.
| Contents
This subject offers an introduction to civic and cultural geography. It is concerned with how the relations between people and their spatial surroundings are developed and understood. This subject will include more recent geographical ways of thought, analysis and appliance. The connections between space and society are taken up at many levels, and spatial expressions such as landscape, places and territory will be analysed as both material and social constructions. This subject is concerned with cultural processes'' meaning for people''s expressions of identity and way of life in global and local contexts.

| Exam and assessment
A 6-hour written invigilated examination with allocated exercises, which will be graded on a scale of A-E (pass) and F (fail).

Teaching spring 2006
Undervisningen i SPL-1002 Samfunnsgeografi vil følges av et seminar som kjøres felles for SPL-1001 Plan, kultur og næring, SPL-1002 Samfunnsgeografi og SPL-1003 Lokale prosesser og kulturforståelse. Seminaret vil være torsdager uke 2-5 for SPL-1001, uke 8-11 for SPL-1003 og uke 17-19 for SPL-1002.
