MTE-3002: Verdens fangstredskaper og forvaltning av marine ressurser Omfang 20 studiepoeng | Emnetype Teoretisk. | Emnenivå/studieår Første eller andre året på masternivå. | Undervisningsspråk Norsk | Eksamenssemester Vår | Innhold Students will get an overview of common (marine) fishing methods of the world highlighting the most important features of modern technology, and how they are applied on the choices of fishing vessels. Recent developments within the international fishing fleets will be shown and discussed to evaluate the barriers of reducing wasteful discards and increasing values of landings. Principles of management will be the framework through several of the sections, showing how international conventions are met to encourage sustainable and responsible fishery practices. The latest mathematical models for calculating the selectivity of static and mobile fishing gears will be applied through computer lab-training and term papers. Presented models are accepted by all the major international scientific research councils and journals. Several examples from international fisheries of successful modifications of fishing gears for more selective operations will be given. The theoretical contents of the course will be applied through a special training on models of mobile fishing gears (various trawl-systems, Danish seine, a.o.). We will use live video from the flume tank test facilities in Denmark and two-way communications to show and discuss different fishing gears as operated at sea. | Undervisning Emnet har varierte undervisningsfomer | Eksamen og vurdering Term paper: 10-15 pages and 6 hours written exam | Pensum Ta kontakt med instituttet/fakultetet | Hjemmeside http://www.nfh.uit.no
