FYS-2012: Practical use of computers and scientific writing Omfang

This course contains an introduction to the operating system UNIX, the programming language IDL, and/or MatLab and the use of the typesetting program LaTeX for scientific writing. It is assumed that the students have only elementary knowledge about using computers. The course also contains instruction on how to structure and write a scientific report and literature search in the library and the Internet. Each student will choose, with the guidance of the teacher, a subject within the framework of Solar Terrestrial Physics or Plasma Physics, and write an overview based on books and journals. The project requires extensive use of library material. The work will be supervised by one of the teachers, and the subject will preferably be related to the subsequent scientific thesis. | Undervisning
