NOR-2121: The literary work of Knut Hamsun. Special course for foreign students.

Work Load
10  credits (ECTS)
Type of course
Theoretical subject.
Level of course/Year of study
Normally third year.
Language of instruction
Norwegian
Examination semester
Autumn
Objectives
The object of the course is to get a good insight into the writing and, to some extent, the life of Norway''s greatest prose author Knut Hamsun. The course does not provide a qualification for teaching in Norwegian schools.
Contents
The course will provide an introduction to the work of Knut Hamsun in a European and modernist context, as well as in a regional context. In addition to his novels, his poetry, plays and accounts of his travels will also be included, as will his polemic articles. Although the focus will be on text analysis, we shall also shed light on and discuss perceptions of Hamsun by his own and later generations.

The course is an offer to foreign students (exchange or guest students) who study Norwegian or Nordic languages and literature at a university in another country. Students who have already taken NorskFRE7 / NOR-0100 Norwegian for non-Norwegian students can choose this course as specialisation.

Recommended previous qualifications / courses: NOR-1110, NOR-1111, NOR-1112 - or equivalent. In addition, students must have knowledge of Norwegian equivalent to NOR-0100, Norwegian for foreign students: a one-semester course of study which is in turn based on previous knowledge equivalent to a pass in Norwegian Level III/the Bergen Test.
Form of teaching
Teaching is organised in lectures and seminars with prepared student presentations. Teaching is distributed over 13 weeks with an average of two teaching hours per week. There will be weeks with no teaching for individual study during the semester.
Coursework requirements

Eit førebudd munnleg innlegg på ca. 15 minutt.
Exam and assessment
Coursework Requirements: In order to sit the examination, the students must give one prepared presentation of no less than 15 minutes. The presentation must be approved by the teacher. Grades will be conferred according to a scale from A-F.
