Language of instruction
Norwegian

Objectives
The object of the course is to enhance students'' awareness of the problems of theory and method which can arise in connection with regional language research, and to improve knowledge of Northern Norwegian literature as a distinctive part of Norway''s national literature. The course does not provide a qualification for teaching in Norwegian schools.
Contents
In Northern Norwegian literary history, there are many examples of the tension between the periphery and the centre which seems to be a general feature of European culture as far back as Antiquity. In this course, the main emphasis will be on central Northern Norwegian works from the period after 1900, and we will try to read these texts into a regional Northern Norwegian as well as a national Norwegian context of literary history.

The course is an offer to foreign students (exchange or guest students) who study Norwegian or Nordic languages and literature at a university in another country. Students who have already taken NorskFRE7 / NOR-0100 Norwegian for non-Norwegian students can choose this course as specialisation. Recommended previous qualifications/ courses: NOR-1110, NOR-1111 og NOR-1112, or equivalent. In addition, students must have knowledge of Norwegian equivalent to NOR-0100, Norwegian for foreign students: a one-semester course of study which is in turn based on previous knowledge equivalent to a pass in Norwegian Level III/the Bergen Test.
Form of teaching
Teaching is organised in lectures and seminars with prepared student presentations. Teaching is distributed over 13 weeks with an average of two teaching hours per week. There will be weeks with no teaching for individual study during the semester.
Coursework requirements

Eit førebudd munnleg innlegg på ca. 15 minutt.
Exam and assessment
Coursework Requirements: In order to sit the examination, the students must give one prepared presentation of approx. 15 minutes. The presentation must be approved by the teacher. Assessment method: A six hour school exam at the end of term. There are no requirements of mastering both types of Norwegian (bokmål and nynorsk), and the demands for practical linguistic skills are less strict than for students who choose a standard course in Nordic languages and literature. Exam languages: Norwegian, Danish or Swedish. Grades will be conferred according to a scale from A-F.
