Contents
We shall work with a selection of novels, plays, short stories and poetry from former colonies, with the intention of examining characteristic literary traits and their foundation in post-colonial identities and strategies. Particular emphasis will be placed on how those who were formerly colonized represent themselves and obtain a voice through literature. The texts are taken from many language environments and we shall be concerned with literature from India, Africa and the Caribbean, amongst other places. We shall also work with a text from the North Calotte, from a post-colonial perspective. Introductions are given to central figures in post-colonial theory, such as Said, Spivak and Bhabha.
