Type of course
Theoretical subject
Level of course/Year of study
Normally third year at bachelor´s level

Objectives
The course deals with a selection of works within Anglophone modernism, with a particular emphasis on the definition and typical characteristics of modernism, as well as its diversity and multiformity of expression across a range of individual texts.
Contents
This study of Anglophone modernism combines a historical and cultural perspective with the close analysis (formal as well as thematic) of selected texts. Particular emphasis will be given to the definition of literary modernism and its typical features, but the course also pays close attention to its diversity and multiformity of expression across our range of individual texts.
Form of teaching
13 weeks of teaching; 6 weeks of academic supervision. Teaching consists of lectures, seminars, discussions led by students and tuition in paper writing.
Coursework requirements

Oral presentation or leading a class discussion
Exam and assessment
Coursework requirements: Each student is required to give an oral presentation OR a lead a discussion on a particular text. These activities should be relatively informal, however the presentation and the discussion session must be approved by the teacher before the student can present herself for the final written exam.

Assessment method: Mid-term paper (up to 7 pages, double line spacing, to be submitted after approximately nine weeks) and a written exam (6 hours) at the end of the term. The mid-term paper counts for 1/2 and the written exam for 1/2 of the final grade.
Date(s) of written examination
15.05.2007
The exam date is preliminary and may be subject to change. Definitive exam date will be announced on the notice boards at the faculties in the beginning of May for the spring semester and in the beginning of November for the autumn semester.
