FYS-8016: Complex (dusty) plasma Work Load 10 credits (ECTS) | Type of course Theoretical subject. | Level of course/Year of study Ph.d level course. | Language of instruction Norwegian, or English by request | Examination semester Autumn
| Contents The course is based on previous knowledge of plasma physics corresponding to the level of FYS-2009 Introduction to Plasma Physics. The course deals with situations where electrically charged micron-sized (dust) particles play an important role and discusses the effects of such charged dust in space and atmospheric physics as well as in laboratory experiments and industry. The course includes the physics of a single dust particle, that is, its charge, motion, light scattering, absorption, collisions, growth, and temperature, and it also deals with collective effects such as structure, waves and instabilities in a collection of dust.
