| Objectives
This course is part of the bachelor¿s degree, but it can also be used as a subsidiary subject in other bachelor programmes connected to social science.
| Contents
This course gives an introduction to Sámi society and culture, in addition to social and cultural variation in time and space. Topics such as economical adaptation, social organization, inter-ethnic relations, ethno-political development, and problems regarding representation and identity are discussed. In addition to giving an ethnographic introduction to Sámi society, the course will also deal with analysis of ethnicity.

| Exam and assessment
At the end of the semester, the student is to write an essay of approximately 3500 words (about 10 pages) discussing an assigned topic. The assigned topic is given 5 weeks before the deadline. Within 1 week after the topic is handed out, the student is expected to deliver a 3 page draft project description. This draft provides the supervisor with information needed for obligatory oral supervision. The draft needs to be approved in order for the students to take the final course exam. The essay will be graded A-E for pass, F for fail.

Obligatorisk muntlig veiledning med faglærer gis i uke 17.
Skissen vurderes som godkjent/ikke godkjent etter veiledningen med faglærer. Skissen må godkjennes for å kunne gå opp til endelig eksamen.
