The course focuses on how bryophytes and lichens can be used as nature environment indicators based on their ecological requirements. This is related both to natural habitats with variations in substrate types, nutrient gradients, climate, humidity and UV-radiation, and human-affected areas, e.g. by air pollution. The course also provides a basis in systematics, and includes field and laboratory based teaching about knowing species, and how to use identification literature.
