KJE-3309: Reaction Mechanisms Work Load 10 credits (ECTS) | Type of course Theoretical subject. | Level of course/Year of study First or second year at master''s level. | Language of instruction Norwegian, english by request | Examination semester Autumn
| Contents The course is intended for students following a Masters- or Ph.D. program in organic chemistry. It is a theoretical course without laboratory exercises. The course treats physical-chemical principles and models for organic reactions. It gives on overview over general principles and methods for studying organic reaction mechanisms. The following types of reactions are treated: Pericyclic reactions, photochemistry, acid-base catalysis, substitution reactions (nucleophilic, electrophilic, homolytic), addition reactions (addition to carbon-carbon multiple bonds, additions to carbon-heteroatom multiple bonds), elimination reactions, rearrangements, red-ox reactions.
| Form of teaching Lectures: 40 h Seminars/exercises: 30 h
| Exam and assessment Written examination, 6 h. Admission to examination requires that the student has fulfilled two compulsory tasks: (1) Given an oral presentation over a given topic, and (2) presented a written literature survey and bibliography over a second given topic.
