The course is a sequence of the basic course on pharmacoepidemiology and pharmacoeconomics (FAR-2001), at an advanced level. It aims to form a basis for completion of the student''s own pharmacoepidemiological and pharmacoeconomical research and for critical elucidation of pharmacoepidemiological and pharmacoeconomical information.

Part I Pharmacoepidemiology
Various methods to collect pharmacoepidemiological information is a central topic. Drug utilisation studies, cross-section studies, observational studies and clinical trials are discussed. Spontaneous reporting of side-effects are discussed. Another important field is the design of studies. Data collection about drug exposure and outcome, bias and the significance of confounders are included as important points. The course also stresses causality and the significance of pharmacoepidemiological studies for drug assessment.

Part II Pharmacoeconomics
The financial aspects of drug utilisation is the point of departure for this part. Various assessment models such as cost effectiveness studies, cost minimisation studies, cost utility studies and cost benefit studies will be explained and discussed. Health related "quality of life" is an integral part of the course.
