| Contents Throughout the centuries, Russia is the only non-Western country that has been able to defend itself against Western imperialism. Russia did it by building a powerful state which influenced society and shaped it according to fiscal and military needs. This way, the only non-Western way to modern society was created; a unique alternative which was neither ¿European¿, nor ¿Asian¿, but ¿Russian¿ and/or ¿Soviet¿. This course follows Russian/Soviet history from the ending of serfdom 1861, the October Revolution of 1917, and the establishment of the Soviet State ¿ and the ending of this state in 1991.
T | Exam and assessment The exam consists of two parts: - One course assignment of approx. 5-6 pages submitted mid-term. - One 6 hour university-based exam at the end of the term.
A joint and equal assessment of the assignment and exam creates basis for the final grade: A-E for pass, F for fail. Students who fail will be given the opportunity of a re-sit examination.
