BIO-2304: Introduction to Bioinformatics Work Load

| Objectives
To give the students a general introduction to bioinformatics. On completion of the course, the students should be able to access information through Internet, be familiar with the tools of bio-information and know how they are used for research of molecular biology, be familiar with databases of sequences and structure and with methods to analyse their contents and to understand some of the possibilities inherent to bio-informational tools when used for research of molecular biology. | Contents
The purpose of the course is to provide a general introduction to bioinformatics with an emphasis on the use of bio-informational tools. The following topics will be dealt with: use of networks and databases, searching in databases, protein structure and modelling. | Recommended previous qualifications
BIO-2302 Molecular cellbiology | Form of teaching
32 (academic) hrs. of lectures, 3 hrs a week of data-lab for 7 weeks, 60 hrs project work. The lab exercises and practical exercises are compulsory and the project work needs to be approved prior to final exam. | Coursework requirements
