Title: Doing Research in a Post-war Society.

Professor Gaborit is the head of the Psychology Department and the Master's Program in Community Psychology in the University of Central America, San Salvador. He is also a member of the Executive Board of the UNDP-El Salvador program "A Society Without Violence", whose purpose is to generate knowledge and promote debate that can contribute to prevent and transform the problem of violence (for more information click here) . He has earlier occupied academic positions in Georgetown University, St. Louis University and The University of Michigan. His most recent relevant publications are "Psicología Social en la posguerra: Teoría y Aplicaciones desde El Salvador, 2005" (Post-war Social Psychology: Theory and Applications from El Salvador) and "Más Allá de la Invisibilidad: Disparidad de Género en El Salvador, 2003" (Beyond Invisibility: Gender Disparity in El Salvador, 2003). He has done research on: exclusion and violence; political and social violence; the psychological consequences of child abuse; mass media and violence; public opinion, legislation on firearms and its relationship to violence; psychological recovery from tragedy; and historical memory.
