Guest Lecture, Dr. Jonathan Lilly

Dr. Jonathan Lilly, Earth & Space Research, Seattle, WA, USA

presents a guest lecture.

ABSTRACT:
The ocean organizes itself into coherent eddy structures of order 10km
across, which can transport significant amounts of heat and other
properties in distinctly non-diffusive ways. Their role is particularly
important in the sensitive convecting regions where the densest oceanic
water masses are made. This talk reviews some recent observations results
together with the time series methods used to extract these organized
structures from various observing platforms.

The lecture is open for everyone!
