Political Liberalism, Welfare, Gender and Human Capabilities 10.-12.08.2004

INVITATION AND CALL FOR PAPERS

The Centre for Women's research and Women in Research (KVINNFORSK) at the University of Tromsø invites you to an international symposium 10.-12.August 2004. The symposium will focus on Martha Nussbaum's capabilities approach, and on liberalism, feminism and multiculturalism.

We are very happy to announce that Martha Nussbaum (USA) will attend the conference. The title of her key note speech is "Beyond the Social Contract: Capabilities and Global Justice".
From Scandinavia Kirsten Ketscher (DK), Mari Teigen (ISF, NO), Kari Wærness (UiB,NO), and Georges Midré (UiTø,NO) are invited to contribute with their views on political liberalism, welfare, gender and human capabilities. Natalia Kukarenko (RUS) will contribute with Russian perspectives.

We are very sorry to announce the death of Susan Okin. She had also accepted the role as key note speaker. The very sad and unfortunate event has lead us to make some changes in the program. However, appreciating Okin’s insights, we still welcome papers addressing her perspectives and theories.

We welcome students and researchers from all over Scandinavia to Tromsø.

Registration for the conference will open after Easter.

CALL FOR PAPERS!

We hereby invite senior researchers and doctoral students to present papers at the international symposium. Abstracts of no more than 200 words addressing issues concerning Human Capabilities, Welfare, Multiculturalism or Liberalism will be evaluated if delivered before 1 June 2004.
