The seminar will begin with some consideration of the opening section from my new book The Idea of North, which offers an overview of ways in which different artists and writers from different cultures have perceived North and Northness. Texts for the seminar will include visual material, poetry, and fiction from the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries.
