presents a guest lecture entitled
"Mapping and imaging of the seafloor with the HUGIN AUV"
Everyone are welcome!
ABSTRACT
The Norwegian HUGIN Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) is the world leading AUV for detailed seabed mapping for the offshore industry. HUGIN 3000 operates down to 3000 m water depths and it has an endurance of 50-60 hours using a semi fuel-cell power source.
In some critical areas, considerable work still remains before AUVs can fulfill their true potential. One such area is payload sensor technology, where synthetic aperture sonar (SAS) is emerging as a very promising sensor on-board AUVs.
Kongsberg Maritime and FFI has an ongoing project to develop interferometric SAS for the HUGIN AUV. This project includes the development of a high resolution multi-aspect interferometric SAS, named SENSOTEK, which recently was installed on FFIs own research vehicle HUGIN I.
