The objective of my little test is to find out which one of these two services are best at telling me which other articles that have cited a specific article since its publication. When doing a literature search this can be an important way of getting an overview of publications within a specific subject.
Anyway, I am interested in a paper called "Understanding the Impact of Synergy in Multimedia Communication", which was published in Journal of Marketing Research in 2003, vol XL (November). Searching in ISI Web of Knowledge tells me that this publication has been cited 15 times since its appearance in Journal of Marketing Research in 2003.
Even so, the exact same search in Google Scholar came up with 27 citations to this specific article! Why? What is the difference between the searches within these two services? In ISI the most recent citation was from june 2005, while in Google the most recent was from October 2005. In ISI all 15 citations were from well renowned journals, while in Google three of the hits were working papers, two Spanish, one report, and 18 from good journals (and some I could not classify).
Ithe strange thing was that some of the citations from ISI, Google could not find - and vice versa (journal publications). So I guess the best approach would be to use both.
