Hunting the Halibut
Bjørn Arntsen
Øyvind and his granduncle Edvin live in the fishing village Rødsand at the island of Senja in Northern-Norway. In the deep fjords outside the halibut
have some of their most important spawning grounds. We follow Øyvind and Edvin in their daily activities in a monumental landscape; in their routine work, but also in tussle with big halibuts. Edvin is approaching 80 years and has a considerable knowledge about the halibut, acquired during many years at sea. Øyvind has recently bought himself his own fishing-vessel and
has still a lot to learn from Edvin. To be able to live from fishing this kind of knowledge is necessary, but by no means sufficient. In his attempt to establish himself as a fisherman Øyvind has for instance to deal with the consequences of a not too forthcoming fisheries policy.
