For employees in the state sector in Norway, settlement of
holiday pay is made in June regardless of when you actually take your
holiday.
When you are on holiday, in theory you receive holiday pay
not the ordinary salary. So when calculating payments in
June, we therefore adjust your normal June salary by paying
holiday pay due and deducting salary for
5 weeks (6 weeks for those over 60). As these 5 weeks amount to more
than the normal salary for June, the net result is a negative
salary for June. The holiday pay however (except in
extraordinary circumstances) more than covers the loss of pay. The net
result therefore amounts to more than an ordinary
monthly salary.
General information
(numbers marked with a star apply to employees over 60 years.)
- Annual holiday 5 (*6) weeks = 25 (*30)
holiday days
- Holiday pay is paid as a percentage of income in the base
year (previous calendar year)
- Holiday pay percentage: 12 % (*14,3%)
- Holiday pay paid in the base year, is not included in the
base for calculating holiday pay the following year
- Deductions for 1 day's salary: annual salary divided by 260
- Deductions for full holiday: 25 days (i.e. 25 x annual
salary / 260)
260 is the number of days per year with a 5 day week (5 x 52)
- If you did not work in Norway for the whole of the previous
year and wish to take only as much holiday as you have earned, use this form.
Calculating holiday pay:
- Holiday pay
Holiday pay is calculated as 12% of the base income from last year.
This base is shown on the annual overview we send out in
January.
Holiday pay for last year and the present year are shown on the monthly
pay slips.
- Salary
June's ordinary salary is calculated and then a deduction is made for 5
(*6) weeks' holiday
A full ordinary holiday is 25 (*30) working days, i.e. more than one
month. But to avoid paying holiday pay in two months, the whole
calculation is done in June.
An example: NN is under 60 years old and
has a monthly salary of 30.000 kr. Holiday pay from last year's income
amounts to 38.000 kr.
Deduction for a holiday of 25 working days:
