Annual plan 2007 (in Norwegian)
ARENA - Centre for European Studies at the University of Oslo is an interdisciplinary centre for advanced studies on the dynamics the changing political order of Europe.
The establishment of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), the European Economic Community (EEC), and the European Union (EU) has brought changes to the system of states in Europe. But one of our main questions is: has it changed profoundly, and how do we see it if it has?
In 2006 there are eight full-time researchers and five doctoral fellows affiliated to ARENA. In addition ARENA engages three part-time professors. Two new full-time researcher positions and one part-time researcher position will be filled from 2007.
ARENA is engaged in a series of international networks. ARENA is co-ordinator for RECON, Reconstituting Democracy in Europe , an Integrated Project involving nineteen partners in twelve European countries and financed by the European Commission's Sixth Framework Programme. ARENA was also co-ordinator for CIDEL, Citizenship and Democratic Legitimacy in Europe financed by the Fifth Framework Programme. Another EU-financed project where ARENA is heavily involved is CONNEX, Connecting Excellence on European Governace , coordinated by the University of Mannheim. CONNEX has
43 partner institutions from 23 European countries. More than 170 scholars cooperate within this network. ARENA also participates in ERPA European Research Papers Archive
ARENA started as a ten-year basic research programme under the Research Council of Norway in 1994. After concluding the programme in 2003, ARENA was reorganised as a centre at the University of Oslo, under the Faculty of Social Science from 2004. The new centre builds on the competence, the research focus and the international networks established during the programme period.
