Scope of the Workshop
Interoperability covers a wide range of issues. This workshop
addresses an important challenge concerning the development
of eGovernment services: reliable identification of data.
Identification is crucial to make communication between computers
and computer-systems possible. Such issues are often referred
to as Semantic Interoperability.
The metadata should be based on internationally recognised
information modelling methods and standards in order to establish
semantic definitions. The methods used to promote and access
metadata also represent a huge challenge, often referred to
as Organisational Interoperability. Access to definitions
and tools for creating forms should be available, preferably
on the Internet, to any entity dealing with application development.
The Technical Interoperability issues cover the use of de
facto standards like XML Schema and XForms to facilitate the
implementation of the definitions. Creation and maintenance
of metadata requires software tools to create and maintain
definitions etc.
The workshop will contribute in the area of semantic interoperability
by
- Describing state-of-the-art semantic interoperability
in Europe by presentations of good practice
- Documentation of identified and agreed principles, methodology
and standards related to identification of data and metadata
