Morten Breivik

I am a 27 year old Norwegian currently pursuing a PhD degree in Engineering Cybernetics at the Centre for Ships and Ocean Structures (CESOS) at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) located in Trondheim, Norway.

I wrote my master thesis during the spring of 2003, culminating five years of study at the Department of Engineering Cybernetics (ITK) at NTNU (a Norwegian page describing what I was up to during my MSc education can be found here). Submitting my thesis, I obtained the academic degree of "Sivilingeniør", equivalent to a MSc degree. I subsequently started working toward a PhD degree, and have now been at it for 3 years.

In the period of September 2005 to April 2006 I went to the United States to do research at the Center for Control, Dynamical Systems, and Computation (CCDC) at the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB), partially financed by a scholarship from the U.S.-Norway Fulbright Foundation.

At the moment I am finishing up my PhD research and writing my thesis. After publicly defending my work at the beginning of 2007, I will temporarily continue working as an assistant professor at NTNU/ITK; teaching, advising, and researching within the field of guided motion control. Then, come the summer of 2008, I'll leave academia to gain some valuable industrial experience.

MSc thesis:
