About me
I'm a PhD student in computer science at the University of Tromsø. On my spare time, I do shareware and freeware development for Mac OS X, as well as work on the occasional open source project.

If you're interested, you can read my Master Thesis and a term paper I wrote during spring/summer of 2004, entitled Collaborative Sharing of Windows Between MacOS X, the X Window System and Windows.

Coding! The picture is old (I stick to using a PowerBook these days), but I still like it. Note the reflection of a Coke-bottle on the laptop's display.

A quick update to point those of you who stumble upon my page to Screen Sieve, my new screen-searching utility for Mac OS X. Enjoy!

I've put up a short how-to on using standard PCMCIA WLAN cards as a substitute for the original AirPort card. It works for me - it may work for you too..

Projects

Here's a list of my past and present projects:

  • Screen Sieve is my latest creation for the Mac. Putting Mac OS X' Accessibility APIs to good use, Screen Sieve searches the contents of your frontmost window, highlight matches as you type. It is non-invasive, doesn't force you to change context like the regular Find feature, and highlights all visible matches at once, rahter than one by one. Get it now!
  • FolderGlance is a great plug-in for the Mac OS X, which adds hierarchical browsing of folders via the Finder's contextual menus. It has a lot of neat options to tailor it to your tastes, supporting things like custom folders, moving/copying files, in-menu previews of images and other files, and much, much more.
  • Desktop Transporter is a remote-desktop application I have written for Mac OS X. It's a great tool for remotely controlling other Macs' desktops, and because it uses Bonjour to discover shared desktops, it is extremely simple to use. Share your desktop with a single click, and gain access to it in an equally simple manner. No fuzzing with keeping server and client separated, Desktop Transporter acts as both at the same time.
  • Ping Tunnel is a simple tool for tunneling TCP connections over ICMP echo requests and replies. A definite must-have for those situations when everything else is blocked, but your ICMP packets get through..
  • Using PCMCIA WLAN cards as a substitute for original AirPort cards. A short project I did to get my aging PowerMac G4 (Gigabit Ethernet) online, without paying ridiculuous prices for a used AirPort card.
  • FrameFix, a very simple-minded application written to fix broken AVI, DivX, Xvid, etc files. It corrects the one problem that no other DivX-fixing app seems to solve: Broken frame lengths. For some reason, most players don't handle this problem very well, which is the reason for this little thing's existence. The link points to a source tarball, so you'll have to compile the app yourself. Tested on Mac OS X.
  • A short makefile tutorial I have written - get it here.
  • PacketProxy, a TCP tunnel application that in some cases is better than SSH tunnels. It's beginning to show its age, but some people may still find it useful.
  • My outdated peer to peer application ecp2p.
  • If you're on the Uninett network in Norway, you can access Telefonkatalogen with my handy little python script, tlf.py. It is meant as a replacement for using lynx or similar on the command line, after Telefonkatalogen disabled their non-javascript browser compatibility.
Talk to me in COBOL, baby!
