EventSpace |
|
| EventSpace is a configurable data collecting, management and observation system used for monitoring low-level synchronization and communication behavior of parallel applications on clusters or multi-clusters. Event collectors detect events, create virtual events by recording relevant data about the events including timestamps, and then store the virtual events to a virtual event space. Consumers use event scopes that provide different views of the application, by combining and preprocessing the extracted virtual events. The EventSpace system is flexible since the number and functionality of event collectors and scopes are customizable. In addition, the virtual event space provides for a rich set of virtual events that can be used for many different purposes. The system is tunable with regards to performance because collectors and scopes can be mapped individually to the nodes of a cluster. This makes it simpler to find a balance between performance and perturbation of monitored applications. The EventSpace prototype has been used on a wind tunnel application. Performance measurements show that the system supports high observation rates of virtual events without any significant slowdown of the wind tunnel application. | |
