The goal of the
project is to research and develop new infrastructure services that make it
simpler, and more scalable for users and applications to effectively apply
resources in multi device-class, multi user, distributed systems that include
clusters, grids, storage resources, display walls, mobile devices, and
infrastructure networks. Robustness is also important in order not to
frustrate the users of a large-scale system with crashes. We will develop new
scalable solutions for resource access and resource sharing in multi
device-class, multi-computer system to improve the efficiency of solving user
tasks. Tasks studied will include the integration and effective access for
computational scientists to grids, clusters, other compute and storage
resources, display walls and other devices. As user-interaction model, we
will extend the well-known desktop metaphor to function in a distributed
multi-user system. We will develop an underlying coordination mechanism with
inherently decoupling and recording that will provide modularity, robustness,
and traceability of events and data. Several paper and reports are available. Please see the Display Wall
project at the University of Tromsų for some pictures of our activities and
preliminary experiments trying out some of the ideas we are developing for
the SHARE project. |
