The Stoltenberg Government follows up on the Emergency Communications Network Development

- I am pleased that the development of the country’s new emergency communications network becomes formalised through the allocation in the Government’s budget proposal.   Cabinet Minister Dørum has made impressive efforts in securing an emergency communications network for this country.  He has dealt with many demanding challenges.  It is also gratifying that the new governing parties declare their intention to follow up the work concerning a new common digital emergency communications network, states Mr. Tor Helge Lyngstøl, Head of Project.

In the declaration “A Political Platform for a Coalition Government” following the discussions at Soria Moria it is stated that “the Government intends to follow up the work concerning a new common digital emergency network for the preparedness agencies”.

Mr. Tor Helge Lyngstøl, Head of ProjectMr. Lyngstøl also points to the fact that the Ministry of Justice has set up a permanent emergency communications network unit in the PST building in the Nydalen valley.  An additional ten members of staff will now be taken on, to assist in carrying out the procurement procedure and conducting quality assurance of the new emergency network.   Already on Monday 17 October the tenders will be arriving from the pre-qualified suppliers. - Following the resolution passed by Stortinget in December 2004 the Ministry of Justice began the procurement process for the emergency communications network.  Within each of the emergency services (fire, police and health) comprehensive arrangements have been put in place in preparation for receiving the emergency network and putting it into operation.  They have all done an excellent job.  We are many who now look forward to getting started, says Mr. Lyngstøl as Head of the Project.

Worth knowing:

Nødnett is optimised for group conversations, but also be used for one-to-one conversations, and for calls to and from other networks.
