PhD-positions within CO2
capture technologies
in the project BIGCO2
at the Gas Technology Center NTNU-SINTEF
BIGCO2 is a project contracted by SINTEF in cooperation with NTNU. The project is funded by the Norwegian Research Council program CLIMIT and an industrial consortium consisting of Statoil, Hydro, Kværner Process Systems, Store Norske, Statkraft Development, and General Electrics Global Research Germany.
Position 1:
The position will be devoted to sealing technology of oxygen and hydrogen
separating ceramic membranes. Sealing materials with tailored mechanical,
thermal and chemical properties will be developed for several membrane systems.
Potential candidates must have a Master degree or equivalent (sivilingeniør,
cand. scient.) in Materials Science or Solid State Chemistry.

tor.grande@material.ntnu.no
Applications should be sent to Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology, NTNU,
N-7491 Trondheim, Norway, and clearly marked NT27/05.
Position 2:
The position is within Power Generation with CO2 Capture (PGCC) working under
the subproject Improved CO2 Absorption. The work will focus on absorption
processes; how to reduce heat requirements, implementation of new absorbents
into the processes and the optimization of these. The nature of the work will be
modelling and simulation of total flowsheets. Techno-economic calculations will
also be performed.

Applications should be sent to Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology, NTNU,
N-7491 Trondheim, Norway, and clearly marked NT29/05.
Position 3:
The position is within Power Generation with CO2 Capture (PGCC). More specific,
the system to be worked on will focus on integration of high-temperature
membrane technology in power cycles.,
The nature of the work is Thermodynamic Cycle Analysis – in which the technology
components are specified by cycle configuration as well as heat and mass balance
information.

Applications should be sent to Faculty of Engineering Science and Technology,
NTNU, N-7491 Trondheim, Norway, and clearly marked IVT28/05.
Position 4:
The position will be dedicated to combustion processes involved in Power
Generation with CO2 Capture. The work will mainly focus on the oxy-fuel concept
where fuel is combusted with pure oxygen together with CO2. The nature of the
work will be experimental including application of advanced laser diagnostics
(Laser Induced Fluorescence, Raman Spectroscopy) in turbulent flames.
