Nanoparticle tranport in porous media |
Statistical modelling of nanoparticle transport in porous mediaThe transport of nanoscale particles in thin films and narrow channels is important in geological and biological systems and can have important environmental implications. In our group we are developing novel experimental techniques to address fluid and particle flow in microscopic pores. In this project you will develop theoretical and numerical methods to describe fluid flow and nanoparticle transport in a porous media. In particular, you may study how a wide distribution of particle sizes will affect nanoparticle transport. If you want a real challenge, you can also address nanoparticle adsorption processes of biological or geological relevance. Contact: Anders Malthe-Sorenssen (malthe@fys.uio.no) in room FV408. |
Particle based modelling of nanoscale transport in porous mediaThe transport of nanoscale particles in porous media with pore diameters of 10-100 nanometers have a wide range of applications in industrial processes and for pollutant transport and purification. In this project you will develop a coupled model that includes interparticle interactions and fluid flow in a porous medium in order to develop better model of pollutant transport and dispersion. Nanoscale modelling of surface processes |
Adhesion modellingAdhesion becomes a significant challenge for developing micro- and nano-scale technology such as micromachines and microfluidic devices. In this project you will develop numerical models to address the effect of atomic structuring on adhesion forces, and on the effects of charged surfaces and the presence of water on adhesion forces.
