Modeling of surface processes in aluminum extrusion

Aluminum extrusion is a fundamental forming process using in the Aluminum industry where aluminum is pressed through a thin outlet - called a die - and obtains a specified shape at the other end. However, the aluminum industry is not able to reach the high precision standards necessary in order to provide a wider range of products for example to the automotive industry. In order to obtain a better control of the process, a better understanding of the friction in the die must be developed. In this project you will develop model used to understand the frictional instabilties in the die in collaboration. The project may be developed in collaboration with industrial partners.
